Why I want your Comments

The truth is that I do not need your comments. I just want them. Not to justify my ego or the existence of this blog.
But they are cool, and those that add them are even cooler.

Apart from that there are added benefits in receiving your comments:

  1. Extension
It is always great to have your opinion and thoughts. In the first place that give the post a life beyond the publish button. They extend and expand upon the information presented. It is always good to hear differing opinions; good or bad – it prevents the post from becoming a canned article.
  2. Connectivity
The potential exists to connect with a like minded person or even just to find a like minded blog. One of the goals of Synaptic Light is to connect with others who combine Filmmaking and Social Media. Commenting is also an opportunity to put out a marker or sow a seed – if you will – of your own blog by putting down a link. Maybe a connection is made quickly or maybe in a few months, either way you have let it be know that you exist. I would not encourage random comment pinging that would not establish good connection, but rather consistent and committed comments.
  3. Fun
Your comments don’t to always be serious, that can be short and even trivial. Sometimes there is need for elaborate answers, other times an arbitrary one will do. That way things can remain fun. It may even cause the conversation to continue along the humorous route – no harm it that, in fact I encourage that – it builds relationships.
  4. Community
Ahhh, the uber goal, the untangle goal. The one goal of Synaptic Light that I would always work towards. And only your consistent and dedicated comments will help in that regard. I believe that comments are the true sign of a successful blog; sod the hits and bounce rates (I say that now and will check my google analytics later *wink*). There is nothing better that a dedicated reader who is willing to consistantly make the intellectual or humorous effort to keep the conversation going. I like that. I love that.

You Rock,
I can switch off Comments and never worry about this, but then what would the point be? There are hundreds of similar blogs out there. The only thing that makes this one different is you. The commenter is the person in the mix who adds the real value to the blog.
So, over to you, my good friend and fellow commenter.

I just wanted to show you how cool I am. :)

Commenting has so many benefits and I personally like the idea of connecting with new people and creating a sense of community with existing commentators.

      Regards,

      Karl

For myself, I like having comments for my own ego! It's flattering when people feel they want to say something about something which I wrote!

I sometimes wonder about sites where posts get almost upward of 1000 comments. What does through the writer's mine, what sort of ego boost happens, does it matter, can they truly response to a stream like that.

Well, truth be told, there is a feeling of justification when there are many comments.
I wonder what high profile bloggers feel when they get 1000 comments – does it feel any different to getting 10?

Nice post. Thought I would try and be one of the cool kids too and leave a comment. And since you stop by my blog and leave input from time to time. I like what you brought out on how comments take a blog/post to be more intertwined when comments are added. Keep it up bro.

My blog rarely get comments. It is part of the structure of the blog (book reviews). It is nice to get them. And I will admit that I have let some spam comments through (without the sketchy links) just to get my comment number up.

But I have found that comments drive traffic. The more I comment on others blogs the more traffic I get on my blog.

I suppose one should not be disillusioned about comments or page views but they seem to be the most tangible measurement. Yes the do drive traffic and if I see referrals from places I comment at then I go back and comment again. As well as making a point of commenting on people's blogs who have commented on mine :)
