What is the Point?

What is the point of blogging if you never engage, and invoke the conversation?
If you get page hits; whether at trickle or a flood, what’s the point.
If there are no comments and therefor not interaction, then maybe it’s time to pack up and walk away.
Valid concerns, don’t you think?
I think so.
It is my concern.
And maybe I should walk away.

Phil, don’t do it!
We all need someplace to say what we think. If you actually write it down and read it again, its a great way to get it out of your head and out there. I love reading blogs (when I have the time). Admittedly, a lot of your content is a bit over my head, but losing a blog is like having a magazine subscription that runs out. Keep up the good work.
Johan
Don’t give up. You have more readers than I do. But with my little readership, I know that God is doing a work. Just today, a regular reader left his and his wife’s testimony. I was truly humbled. They need prayer.
At the end of the day, isn’t it worth it if God gets the glory in just one post?
I know how you feel. Since starting mine in January, I’ve had thoughts of “what am I doing? Is this really impacting the Kingdom?” All those doubts are nothing but the devil. Tell him to keep quiet. We have to be Kingdom-minded and as long as we are glorifying God, then quite frankly, I don’t care if I never get above 15 readers. We will never know what the real impact is of those 15 this side of heaven!
In Christ,
Joe
Thanks for that
I just get so frustrated.
Yip, end of the day – it is about Glory for God.
Your blog looks like it is hitting home in that respect
Hello my name is Phillip, I am a blogger, and I love the peanut gallery.
Can I get an ahem from the gallery?
I think it’s a bit of an egg or chicken question. If a blog is the one and only way of interacting with others, about something you are seriously passionate about, I think you might be disappointed. People reading blogs often scan things quickly, don’t always feel an urgency to reply, are sometimes trying to do a lot in a little time… In my opinion, the first prize would be to have others around you who have the same interest and passion for the topic, who have the time to meet face to face, to discuss and practically create and learn from each other, side by side. Second prize is to have the blog, so that you can share what you’ve learnt and continually be encouraged to grow in your craft from others more experienced than yourself. The challenge comes though, when you are trying to meet those like minded people.. therefore the need to blog to make connections and the frustration of not connecting fast enough, regularily enough and meaningfully enough. In my understanding, the egg and chicken of blogging interaction. My suggestion in the meantime- nothing worth having is achieved without a struggle. Hang in there and DON’T give up. I believe in you!
A while ago you wrote this (Yea I am calling you out on it
).
As far as I can tell your post above only reflects your frustration to point number 2.
What about 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6?
Don’t give up!
I don’t have much experience with blogging yet, but here is what I think anyway:
I don’t have a fast connection and it takes an incredible amount of time to read what everyone has to say on facebook and reply and check out all the links they post and then add an opinion on some peoples blogg every day.
Consequently, I tend to skim alot now, just to get the general idea of what every one is doing. Sometimes you stop to read a blogg that interests you more carefully.
If I don’t leave a reply or comment, it does mean that post didn’t interest me.
Sometimes I didn’t see the beginning of the conversation, or don’t want to but into someone else’s conversation, or don’t want to leave a comment others may not like, or haven’t got the time to compose and intelligent response.
I do appreciate all the effort you put into providing all the links and articles etc.
Also, the net is very fast. I mean two days later, after I thought about one of your links, everyone is now talking about some other issue or post.
Don’t stop posting links and articles on facebook – I’m sure many people check out your links.
Nick
i erroneously stumbled on your internet site while seeking something other.neat publish.though i wasnt in search of this…i dont utterly agree with you but still a great agrument.
Thanks for that Johan,
My intention in blogging is not for me to write down thoughts that I can come back to – not completely. It is engage, converse, interact with like minded people. In the process getting to know them, learning from them, offering what I have to them, and also to do this in a way that expresses my belief and worship of Jesus Christ.
If no one stops, comments and engages then I am loosing the plot and must reboot.
yip, u have actually hit the nail on the head.
But it is not easy to implement and to be patient about it.
Patience is key – but it does not mean that you have to like it.
As for like minded people (ahem- thank fully there arn’t people like me, he he he – that a joke).
I suppose that I am just not finding people locally that share my interests, when it comes to blogging there are a few, and a few in film making 0 but just not with the same passion, desire for excellence and technical ability I strive for.
Am I pushing a rock?
I put numbers down?
I am also hoping for discussion on the whole page hits vs comments for measuring success – but it did not come out like that.
oh yes,
Yes call me out
1. To bring Glory to Jesus Christ – my Lord and Saviour – to whom I am a servant in all things I do, even this – blogging, filming and editing. For Sure and I hope that I can do this in the manner I conduct myself here and on other blogs.
2. To create connections and relationships with those that have similar interests as me. I agree with A Few Benefits of Blogging from http://churchcrunch.com/Yip this is what frustrates me, but only in the measurement of the number of comments – I am actuallt developing relationships which is fantastic.
3. To learn – there are so many more skilled people out there than me No doubt about that – it’s almost an overload.
4. To offer my opinion and thoughts regarding my passion for video and editingNot happening enough, cos I am so busy doing the job.
5. To show what my Church is doing that is really cool, especially with respect to Life Change and all aspects video related. As they come I post em
6. And of course I can express myself better in this format and forum you think?
shot 4 that
I won’t stop
