Trailers, but why?

Isn’t there a better name than ‘trailer’?

We don’t watch them at the end of a movie anymore so why do we still call them trailers?

  • Preview
  • Summation
  • Promotion
  • Teaser
  • Random Clips to Entice you to Watch it

What do you think they should be called?

My family always used to refer to them as the “shorts”

Call them what they are…Previews! Or, maybe not. Coz they’re often quite misleading. They’re advertisements. Maybe we should just say so! Some advertisements describe the product accurately, some (most?) do not. Same thing with trailers. Mostly I think they’re poorly done. It would be great if more creative people got involved in making them. In other words, get those people from the marketing departments OUT of the trailer business. Leave it to the artists (you know; the ones who actually MADE the film and understand it best?) with a minimum of guidance from marketing.

Trailer is definitely the wrong word. I agree with Ron – “preview” makes total sense!

Preview yes, but a jumble of preview shots from the movie that suits the needs of the Producers and not necessarily the writers.

    right on,
they are just the movie’s demo reel setup to entice you to watch the it irrespective of story.
