The Ultimate Video Editing Interface: iPad Extreme
The Apple iPad as it stands (or lies) now does not seem to be capable enough to be a video editing system. I can’t refute it’s usefulness as a great tool to assists pre-production, production and post. Yet the potential that this new interface is huge.
It won’t do as a stand alone system for editing. You certainly could not take it to the coffee shop for some quick editing could you.
However.
Imagine if Apple released a different version of the iPad. A 17″ version that possessed all the capabilities of the current iPad except that it could plug into an existing editing system and be an extension of whatever other interfaces you might use for compositing, 3D, Editing and Color Correction.
Your own personalized interface.
That to be would herald the new era of video editing.
Then you could edit more intuitively; responding better to the way you feel about an edit rather then trying to find a set of keystrokes to try something else.
I picture siting at an architect’s desk; my touchscreen set before me as my main controller/interface where I can quickly have audio, video, color correcting controls available at a single touch. Then a main preview screen to see the result. Gone will be the need for hardware interfaces that cost thousands of dollars, gone will be the need to jump through keystroke loops in order to switch between controls.
