I started a blog series a few weeks back with the intent of highlighting the Stuff I can only dream about. Sorry for the detail in starting the actual series, but here it is.
First of all: The Camera. It is possible that you could argue a better camera that what I have below; probably based on experience and preference. What I have below it the camera that appeals to all my senses, talents and abilities.
The Camera
Red Epic Camera Package
Currently the RED One is available, it’s an awesome camera, it’s 4k:
2K 2:1 2048×1024
- 2K 16:9 2048×1152
- 2K Anamorphic 1382×1152
- 3K 2:1 3072×1536
- 3K 16:9 3072×1728
- 3K Anamorphic 2074×1728
- 4K 2:1 4096×2048
- 4K 16:9 4096×2304
- 4K HD 3840×2160
- 4K Anamorphic 2764×2304
- 4.5K 4480×1920
RED Epic FF35
Along with 4:4:4 color sampling. But the RED Epic FF35 Pro Cinema Camera is just out of this world. It will most likely only be available next year but if I could get it then I would be willing to wait for it. It handles up to 6K resolution at 16:9, 3:2, 2:1 or 2:4:1 aspect ratios (just don’t ask me what that last one is) . The FF35 can also do up to 350 fps with QuadHD 2K – wow.
Consequences
Ok there are Consequences. The RED camera alone is not a solution, there are lenses, fittings and accessories that are required that can more than double the price tag of this camera. Also there is the dependency on digital storage; there is no physical material that can be called your film – it is all stored on temperamental drives. The quantity of storage required can blow your mind away if you are not careful – that storage will be part of the dream as well.

So, what do you say? What would be your dream camera? 35mm? Digital?

We are looking forward to more.
I enjoyed reading this, i’ve been wondering about this subject for a while.
