The #HDSLR Daily

October 18, 2010 — 1 Comment

The HDSLR Paper.li is great for keeping up to date with any popular and interesting tweets using the #HDSLR tag. It gets published daily, so it is only once a day (no spamming).
It also has embedded rich media content – for example: videos where HDSLRs were used.
Check it out and please share, and promote :)

What can I say? I really do not know. Maybe you should just tell me what you think.
Go for it …

SynapticLight and me as the primary author (you can be a contributing one if you like – hint hint) have other channels where connections are made. They may be social networks outside of this blog, but they are places where discussions and sharing on filmmaking related topics can happen as well.
The goal is not to put together numbers and counts to inflate my reputation, the goal is to connect, engage and make friends. In connecting and ultimately making friends, we can learn from each other and others can learn from us as they read.

So I encourage you to check them out, to help share and discuss, and to join/friend.

Analysis and Demographics Of South African Twitter Usage

Glad to see that there are some interesting pie and bar charts for South Africa Twitter users :) . Also good to see what us South Africans are tweeting about. The report was put together by fuseware.net (Strategic Social Media Integration) and look quite complete; a couple of interesting things about it … Continue Reading…

Things Change

Man – how things change. When I first put together the list of Top 20 People I Follow on Twitter – back in April 2009 – I was a bit naive and was a bit too quick to put names up of popular peeps. I was really only starting to appreciate twitter back then and still had a lot to learn. Ok, I am still learning, but from what I have learned and from my experience I need to amend this list – as well as focus it a bit. Also relationships change, especially when there is no cementing of them by means of genuine face to face contact.

Not about Points

Also this is not a popularity contest and I do not get points for who I follow. It is about where my interests lie; blogging, filmmaking and friends. Don’t be perturbed if you are not on the list; there will be another and it will be different.
So here is my current list: Continue Reading…

Here is a great example in leveraging Social Media; the #indiemm hashtag. This is of special interest to me because my interests lie smack bam in the middle of that. So following this trend item on twitterfall or even on twitter will help me to connect with people involved in Independent Film and also to help promote Independent Film.

Twitter Search Feed for #indiemm.

Twitter Books

December 1, 2009 — Leave a comment

I am quite big on twitter.

Big as in I believe in it and that it is useful beyond casual conversation and fun.

But between you and me,  I don’t think we need to read books on how to use twitter. lol. Yet it is a great example on how to leverage this great communication channel to get something published , eh?

Having said that – there are great books out there that talk about leveraging these social tools for business and personal gain. Books that are more about engaging than just using one tool.

Here are a few books: Continue Reading…

Stanley Kubrick

  • Quentin.J.Tarantino: Been quite a while since he has tweeted but I guess that he was busy with the promotion of Inglourious Basterds and hopefully some other cool project.
  • Robert Rodriguez: No so active at the mo – most likely blowing stuff up.
  • Jon Favreau: Director of Iron Man and the awesome sequel to follow.
  • Richard Kelly: Director of the Box – reminds me of that Twilight Zone story
  • Stu Maschwitz: His Bio says it all – Filmmaking nerd. Extremely well versed in the technical aspects of filmmaking.
  • Philip Bloom: Big on the DSLR front with Canon’s 5DmarkII and 7D. And a whole more in filmmaking and training.
  • Jessi:”Trying to support indie filmmakers; already worked on set” what could be more cooler that that – Support for Independent Filmmakers

Dog in SunglassesRisking associating popularity with coolness here are the people I think would be cool to follow on twitter.

  • Ashton Kutcher: Forget his acting, this guy will most likely be the great Media Mogul. He is in the perfect storm for this to happen; popularity, coolness, money, savy and connections – all being leveraged for more than just fun.
  • Alyssa Milano: Not letting popularity create a wall of aloofness she has sought to connect with people on twitter; engaging with them.
  • Jonathan Acuff: Being a Christian does not have to be boring. Especially when he can leverage his popular blog, StuffChristiansLike to raise money for the needy.
  • Carlos Whittaker: As “artist, pastor, thinker, experience architect, and Web 2.0 junkie” who tells it like it is and everyone listens.
  • Pete Cashmore: To keep up to date with twitter and all you need to know besides it looks like Pete should be an Artist and not a Social Media Junky.
  • Has Cheezburger?: ok, not a person, but lots of links to those crazy pictures
  • Phillip Gibb:Seriously cool dude, learning Social Media and making Films. Or a freak, not sure.
