Super-duper Cameras: Sony CineAlta F23

CineAltaF23
Lets kick off this series with a serious camera. “Why.so.serious?” because it is hectic in quality, specs and price. Ummm, and about that price …

$150,000

That’s more than my house!! Much more. Hope that lens is included and out of this world. Anyway, money aside; what makes this camera so good: Continue Reading…

Super-duper Cameras

8mmCamera

There are some seriously hardcore and stunning digital (I know the picture above is an 8mm) Video cameras out there (besides the RED one) *grin*. The question is which are they. Not just the coolest, the sexiest, the most fancy or the biggest. Or the, ummmm, most expensive. So join me in this search to find them and what makes them so awesome.

And, yeah,  feel free to add some suggestions for me to look into.

The purpose? Well – why not? There are blogs about hot women and hot cars; I am a camera enthusiast (amongst other film related things), so why not camera :-)

So I was thinking … to start with these:

  • RED One (and the soon to be released Epic and Scarlet) – dahh
  • Sony CineAlta F23
  • Thomson Viper FilmStream
  • ArriFlex D-21
  • IMAX

Aweome stuff, I say, awesome stuff :-)

My Problem with Idolatry (The Red Apple)

Yip, I admit it – I have a problem.

I am weak.

What can you expect from a work in progress.

Too much of my time is spend desiring and dreaming about an awesome RED One camera System and a hardcore Mac Pro Editing Setup. There we go; I said awesome and hardcore in one sentence.

Hmmmm.

Which Video Camera is best for Bluescreen

Well bluescreen or greenscreen.
I have used the following:

  • Panasonic AG-DVX100BE
  • Sony EX-1
  • Canon XH-A1

I would like to have use a Panasonic HVX200A or maybe the Sony EX-3 or the Panasonic HPX170.

But what is the best camera to us for recording content for green or blue screen? Not just from the selection above. Not just in the price range inferred from the section.
What do you think is the best camera?

Canon XH A1: My First Impressions

canon-xh-a1

Yesterday I had the opportunity to work together on the Canon XH A1 in our BlueScreen shoot. I was not the camera I was hoping for – that being a Panasonic HVX200A, but it was still a great camera. In the 3-4 hours I was their (Platypus Studios in Cape Town South Africa) I got to fiddle and mess around with the camera – albeit in it’s locked off state on the tripod. During this time I was able to make a few observations. Continue Reading…

Video Team: Camera Setup

Panasonic AG-DVX100BE Camera Setup
I have a great camera and I love the fact that I get to use it every week for church and sometimes during the week. Ok, not enough on projects that would benefit me – but hey I have a greater purpose in mind.
Basically every Sunday we setup the camera in order to feed it and ProPresenter content through to the Creche area. Here are the Settings that we use:

JVC GY-HM100 Overview

Maybe not the camera I would go for because, for me, price wise it sits to close to a Panasonic HVX 170; $4000 for the JVC and about $5000 for the Panasonic. But the whole solid state QuickTime thing in the JVC is pretty cool.

RED: The Fun is in the Detail

I am pretty sure that the RED EPIC FF35 is the way to go, at least to be future proof for the next few years. Well I am also sure that 4K is future proof for the next 2 years ;-) so 6K is a lot of icing on an already nice cake, mmmmm.

RED Stands tall, very TALL

Panasonic’s HPX170 Article by Dan Brockett

Here’s a cool article on a cool new camera by Panasonic. I am a bit lost as to what the difference is between the HPX170 and the HVX200A so I am looking out for a nice comparison between the two. However looking at the screen shots in the article gives me a warm fuzzy feeling in my stomach - a knowing – a certainty that I could hit the ground running with this camera. In many ways the ergonomics are so similar to the DVX100BE that I have yet better. Simple things like the use of a more robust 6 pin FW400 situated at the back of the camera, I never had a problem with the cable unplugging but with the 4 pin on the right side of the DVX100 I was always having to wrap the FW around when recording on the fly.

This camera is currently bracketed with the HVX200A  as part of the Video budget, just got to figure out how to get the money which is always such a problem with so much cool stuff out there like the RED One, the JLCooper ExclipseCX, the Mac Pro etc etc etc. Still wondering about that donate button heheheh or maybe I should start charging ;-)
