Archives For Apple

question cuff links

Here’s a question for you. What will happen with the Pro Apps now that Steve is not here any more? More specifically Final Cut Pro X. And of course the Professional offering of Mac Pros. This question assumes that Steve Jobs’s vision for FCPX was very influential – which I believe was.

If I was Apple’s CEO it would be important to me to streamline the business and to shed low priority departments without emotion. With the focus of Apple dead set on mobile devices and with the stream of cash coming into Apple from those devices, I am sad to say that FCPX is not going to make it, that includes Logic and the Mac Pro.

Pity.

Then the follow on question is who will buy FCPX? Or would the break away as an independent subsidiary that answers to Apple but does not weigh it down.

Or is this just unjustified guessing? Hmmm.

If I had the budget I would be editing with Avid, color correcting with Da Vinci (already with Lite) and compositing with Nuke.

Actually if Hit Film went OSX then I’s be there in a sprint

Hmmm, time to dual boot?

Early January there were some Final Cut Pro rumors going around, the talk has been around for some while. Lets face it – Apple are a bit behind in their maintenance of Final Cut Studio – FCS 3 was not much of an overhaul.
This quarter of 2011 looks to be set to see in an amazing an spectacular release of Final Cut Studio. March seems to be the likely month – although with only 2 day till Steve Jobs’ birthday (25th Jan) it would be cool to see a release then.
TechChruch has the inside track from editors who have previewed the product and have stated that the changes are “dramatic and ambitious”.

ok, now exactly what is going to blow us away in the next release?
To be honest, I did not even upgrade from FCS2 to FCS3 – it was just not viable for me and the money was diverted towards my move to HDSLR.
Will the next Final Cut Studio be a viable, sensible, must do upgrade.
It better, because Adobe Premier Pro is looking like the bees knees with every new release. The next Premier Pro is going to be hard to ignore. So the next Final Cut Studio better be aiming for a better mark than that.

What is in store for the next Final Cut Studio?

This is what I have been waiting for. Hoping and dreaming for. Ok, it is way out of the league of my finances, but the fact that Apple has released this new range of Mac Pros has restored my confidence in them.

Here are the things that stand out for me:

High End Commitment

Why? Because I have doubted Apple’s commitment to the more professional user, a commitment that has been dogged my rumors and suspicions about Final Cut Studio’s life. The idea that Final Cut Studio was under threat has been substantiated by the notion that Apple was not committed to the high end market. Which they have debunked now through the release of these beasts.

All is a-buzz with Final Cut Pro recently, with all sorts of doubt and speculations. My first thought was:

What is happening Apple? Please keep up in the loop. We know that you have great commercial momentum with the iPhone and iPad, but there are lots of users out there that use Final Cut Pro (Final Cut Studio for that matter). But please just communicate

I for one love Final Cut Pro, been using it for years, and have lots of investment (time, effort and money) in my system. And, yes I know that video editing should not be dependent on the tools, but when you are used to a set of tools that help you then you don’t want to spend months learning a new set. Another good looking mobile video editor. Now if you could connect a decent video camera to your iPad and stream it directly then you could really get going. lol, well, the more I think about the more I think that the iPhone is just so much more convenient to carry around. The screen is just so small to edit video on, however I would just be top and tailing the video – more than anything. Continue Reading…

If you are looking for information on the Apple iPad; thoughts, applications and suggestions, here are a few articles from bloggers. Although I have a slant towards filmmaking and church, most entries here will be relevant. Also I have not been able to try the iPad out or the apps, for that matter, the device is not available in my country as yet.

ReelDirector

Very interesting. At first I thought there is just no way to edit video on the iPad, but here you decide after watching the video. I have to say – I would love to edit video like that, yet maybe on a bigger screen and with lots of multi touch gestures – think Minority Report ;)
