The Visual Impact Stolen Goods Portal aims to assist in stemming the tide of broadcast equipment thefts. We have created a world-wide resource for serial numbers of stolen equipment.
I love it; leveraging social media to bring recover Stolen broadcast equipment back – and hopefully catching the crooks. This is a great time to bring out this service with the Soccer World Cup on the go. There are already a few reports of international reporters being targeted for their video equipment.
If the community gets involved then this kind of service can be incredibly useful, just think of the possible success stories. Word of stolen equipment being spread with FaceBook, Twitter, etc can race faster than a crook running away.
- Would you use a service like this?
- Have you been in a situation when you have suspected equipment has been stolen?

Yes, I’d like to use a service like this. I like being able to pick up second hand stuff on the cheap at cash converters, without the guilt of the stuff having *possibly* been stolen. The fact that it *might* be stolen isn’t enough to convince me to avoid that place altogether, but I’d feel an awful lot less uneasy if I could look up serial numbers (with my phone, while I’m in the store, for extra credit!) before buying. So yes to #2 also, but “suspected … has been stolen” is slightly overstating it.
Heck, the pawn shops might even use such a service if it had enough coverage.
yeah, that is for sure.
Hi

There should be more of this kind of thing, community involvement and spreading the word. Using Facebook, twitter, blogs, etc
how is Durbs? Where I grew up – very cool.
