StandardTheme Testing

StandardTheme Logo
You have probably noticed that I have not only changed themes – from Thesis to the new Beta StandardTheme by John Saddington. So over the next couple weeks I will be trying out a few things in order to help smooth the theme into Release Candidate status. I ask that you please tell me if you see any anomalies or funnies while you dig around.

Standard Theme built on Industry standards Standard Theme fast, light, effective Standard Theme SEO best practices

I was always going to perform a complete style overhaul so this has now become my opportunity to put a few of those ideas into effect while testing the StandardTheme. So please let me know what you think of the style – recommendations are welcome.
I do not mind any opinion or thoughts. Each will be considered and , when appropriate, submitted to the StandardTheme Development Team. Your input is important.

You asked for feedback :) all of this is on the way things look, and not on the functional aspects. I am also not commenting from a ‘position of strength’ as my blog theme is nowhere near perfect :)

Intense debate did not load (which is not the problem) but the “did not load” message is in black on the black background.

It would look smoother if the search widget lined up with the top edge of the post.

Right edge of the Side bar goes way further to the right than the header bar. actually the layout of the search, subscription and adds widgets in the sidebar look to have been done for a much narrower sidebar.

I love the buttons in the nav bar, but the text is a bit difficult to read. use a bold font?

        Cool.
Thank you for the honest feedback.
I have started by making the nave text bold.
Now I'll open up the blog with a browser that does not do ID very well.

It is the breadcrums thing that is messing with the search vs post top alignment. all looks good on the home page, just out of alignment on the individual post pages.

looks like the things Ron pointed out are already fixed. The site is looking good! I am liking this theme the more I see it around. The buttons in the nav bar are pretty cool, and with the font bolded, are much easier to read. Very clean look, very nice.

        :)
Navigation bar is completely my own – the StandardTheme defaults to the published pages.
Still getting used to everything. I might have to go back to Thesis dependency on the BETA policy – that would be sad. but I have learned a lot of CSS in the process.

If you are worried about not being able to use the theme after the BETA is passed… Johns original BETA invite states:

Finally, after the 30 Day BETA trial your membership will switch to the Standard License and you’ll be granted limited access to the forums.

Yea, that and the title. I think of a kids website when I see that. I just don't feel professional looking at the title. Hope you don't take that the wrong way.

maybe I need to relook at the branding – trying to get a designer friend of mine involved but time is always an issue

Not meaning to let down all of your ideas, but just thought i'd give ya some feedback. Glad you kinda get the same feel so im not the only crazy one. I have a brother that designs, but He doesn't do a lot with wordpress sites. Maybe I can get him on it.
