StandardTheme Testing Part2

Standard Theme Test

This is my second round of testing out the WordPress Theme by John Saddington called StandardTheme.
It has been fun, and I’ll certainly be continuing on with the Theme – maybe even invest in it once it comes out of beta; John deserves every cent for the great work he has done. Watch out Thesis ;)

css iconCSS
The CSS stuff that I have done is not really related to the theme itself other that the default style.css that is bundled with the theme to start off with. However I have done a lot of CSS styling.
firebugFireBug
FireBug has been my go to tool in this testing phase, that Inspect Element option rocks:

  • Trying out CSS changes on the fly.
  • Seeing how others make use of CSS.
  • Finding out what CSS entry is needed to effect a change.
codaCoda
For editing the php  files and the custom css file I have made use of Coda in order to work easily and quickly. It integrates well with the CyberDuck FTP client. However I do not have $99 to shell out for the licensed version so it closes on me every 15 mins.
eclipseEclipse
I will start trying Eclipse for PHP Developers for the CSS, HTML and PHP work. Along with the css plugin that I’ll need to find for it.

Opinion So far

Been wonderful working with the Beta WordPress Theme. I have learned a lot from all the digging around. It is not like I have increased my presence on the web  because of it or improved my referrals from Search Results. I still need a lot more work and luck to get that right.

I love the tweaks you have made, however there are a few things on the right side bar that look off. Like the google friend connect and top posts. Do those need a white background?

      :)
I am wondering about removing the Post Rank Top Posts and rather putting a conventional one, along with categories, archives and a few more in the footer.
Think I will put a white background on the Google Friend Connect -tks
