RSS

RSS is short for Really Simple Syndication. When you register an RSS feed you will be adding the content from where the RSS feed originates from for the purpose of reading the content with a different reader (a reader in this case is a web application that displays the content as it becomes available). There are many types of readers out, they typically allow for multiple feeds and grouping of types of feeds.

The purpose here is that the reader allows you to view all the feeds that you have registered from a single location as well as seeing which of the feeds’ items have been read or not.

Most blogs will offer the ability to register it’s RSS feed to a reader of your choice. If this is not on offer it does not mean that whatever reader you use will not allow the blog to be added. Pretty much all reader will allow blogs to be added manually and will infer the feed on your behalf.

Depending on how many feeds you have registered it is advisable to create groups for blogs that have the same or similar category.

Some examples of Readers:

  • Google Reader
  • My Yahoo
  • PageFlakes
  • NetVibes
