New Mexico International Film Festival

Here is an interesting Film Festival. Instead of just offering a once off prize, the New Mexico International Film Festival will be giving Filmmakers who have been officially selected some awesome prizes. Well, more like Compensation, Opportunity and Rights. Once selected, filmmakers will be compensated:

FILMMAKER COMPENSATION, RULES & REGULATIONS

COMPENSATION PACKAGES:

Official Selections of the New Mexico International Film Festival are compensated for exhibition.

Short Films (Documentary & Narrative) shall receive:

1.) $200.00 towards travel expenses.
2.) (1) hotel room for the length of the festival.
3.) (9) pre-paid meals at a participating restaurant.
4.) 10% of box office gross if paired with a feature film.
5.) 50% (divided by the number of accepted films & attending filmmakers) if programmed in a shorts block.
6.) 100% of all direct merchandise sales.
7.) Reimbursement of submission fees.
8.) Review of film from either festival director or associate director to be used for future publicity.

Feature Film (Documentary & Narrative) shall receive:

1.) $300.00 towards travel expenses.
2.) (1) hotel room for the length of the festival.
3.) (9) pre-paid meals at a participating restaurant.
4.) 40% of box office gross if paired with a short film.
5.) 50% of box office gross if exhibited alone.
6.) 100% of all direct merchandise sales.
7.) Reimbursement of submission fees.
8.) Review of film from either festival director or associate director to be used for future publicity.

Screenplays shall receive:

1.) Staged Reading
The winning screenwriter will receive the Best In Fest screenplay award, which will consist of a staged reading of their screenplay performed by professional actors before an audience. This staged reading will be videotaped in 720p HD. An audio recording will be made as well.
2.) Travel & Lodging
The winning screenwriter will receive $200.00 travel reimbursement, 1 night lodging and 3 pre-paid meals at a participating restaurant.
3.) Promotion
The winning screenwriter will receive a professional WordPress website. The website will include text, audio and video versions of the screenplay (on a secured page, if preferred) as well as a writer’s bio and contact information.

RULES & REGULATIONS:

In order for filmmakers to qualify for any of the above mentioned compensation packages, filmmakers must:

1.) be an official selection of the New Mexico International Film Festival.
2.) be present for at least one day of the New Mexico International Film Festival.
3.) attend all exhibitions, tech rehearsals and Q&A’s of their motion picture or screenplay.
4.) conduct a promotional campaign of their film’s exhibitions one week in advance of the New Mexico International Film Festival.
5.) provide adequate proof regarding the official selection’s chain-of-title, sign a document stating they are the legal representative of the official selection, and that the New Mexico International Film Festival shall not be held responsible for any disputes arising from third parties claiming ownership or rights to profit sharing of the said official selection.
6.) not violate any local, state, federal or pueblo laws while attending the New Mexico International Film Festival.
7.) proactively be an ambassador of the New Mexico International Film Festival when speaking for, about, acting on behalf of and/or attending the New Mexico International Film Festival.

Granted, this is not a case of submit and hope – there is work to be done. However, being officially selected and earning box office gross is something that most of us dream of.
