As most of you know (well anyone temperamental to Apple – as I am) Apple released new goodies. A new Mac Book and Mac Book Pro Line was introduced – looking quite snazzy. It does not appear as if Apple wants to support the 17″ option since that did not take part in the overhaul.
I have to say that I like the black screen border, the NVIDIA graphics and the opening mechanism in the Mac Book Pro. The MBP I have now is very annoying to open, hmmm. Not sure how the NVIDIA alliance is going to help my editing – if I were going to get a new MBP – but I can only guess that it would offer a reasonable performance boost in Motion; especially in the 9600M GT mode.
The jury is going to out on the FW800 only option, but with the new FireWire standard set to be sundered upon us some time soon I reckon that we have only to benefit. Only problem is – how do I capture from my DV Camera? Well, with an adapter I guess, but then it’s wonky connector to wonky connector.
The touch pad is interesting to say the least. Being an exclusive mouse user this new thingy ma bob don’t mean too much to me – I need a 3 button mouse for Shake (and on that point – Apple? what up?).
As for the new 24″ Display – looks pretty cool.
If I had the money to buy a new MBP, I think I’ld choose to rather save for a Mac Pro. My current Motion renders take far too long and I don’t think anything other that a fully spec’d Mac Pro would help.
