Ok this is NOT comparing apples with apples, more like comparing the latest Fighter Jet with apples – but it is fun none the less
There is a really cool resolution chart for all the RED formats over at Reduser.
The millimeter measurements work out exactly to be 3/500th of the pixel resolution.
So everything other than resolution aside:
DV PAL works out to 4.32mm x 3.456mm on this scale.
Compared to the 168mm x 56mm representation of the RED EPIC’s 617 Pro 28,000 x 9,334
Thats 38.889 times more horizontal resolution and 16.204 times more vertical resolution than DV PAL.
Awesome.
Ok that was fun, back to the real world …

That comes out to the 617 being equivalent to 630.16 DV PAL sensors. So, if you had 630 TV monitors stacked 15 high, and 42 across, and each one was a 24 inch monitor showing footage shot by a DV PAL camera, it would be equivalent to a 88 foot monitor which would be the resolution of the footage shot on the RED 617. Not bad!
Nothing better than getting what you want from a post, kudos to you for this.
