a great student short film contest
I was contacted by a member of Film Expo Asia who asked that I help spread the word of the event. The event being a student short film contest. I like it, and I encourage you to find out more. The competition basically is open to “everybody who studies / resides in Asian countries or is Asian citizen”, but be sure to check the submission details.
The contest involves first applying to be on one of the 99 teams, then to compete on location in Thailand. This makes it an ideal student Filmmaker competition – especially since it takes place over the typical student recess period. This means that you don’t have to have a short film done and dusted by the 30th April – just a Treatment, all the work is done on location. It also does not seem necessary to possess any form of equipment, although the use of equipment will be on a first come first serve basis. What is also great is that Film Expo Asia will be helping out with certain forms of transportation (Facilities & Production Support section).

“Celebrating the King of Thailand’s contribution to his people, Thai Government along with Kantana Entertainment under the name of Film Expo Asia will be hosting their first student short film contest on the Theme, “Living Faith of the Beloved King.”
Students from across the world will have an opportunity to compete for 99 team spots to travel and be the Grand Prize winner of $100,000 by Film Expo Asia’s short film contest in Thailand.

Grand Prize of USD 100,000 and 8 honorable mentions will be awarded.
Pre Qualification Entry will end April 30, 2010 6 PM Pacific Daylight Time.
Qualified teams will be announced on May 9th 2010.

Who is Film Expo Asia
With the key role of movies – an aesthetic art form – as a significant medium for driving global society throughout recent history, it is advisable to provide channels for youths to mature through opportunities to master processes of film-making, every step of which is delicate as both a science and an art.
I don’t know about you, but a shot at a prize of $100k for a short film is a great opportunity.
