I have been creating video elements for my church for 5 years now. I am not an expert – let me just throw that one out there – and I am learning all the time, which I am sure is the case for everyone in this industry.
Here are some things I have picked up on when it come to creating engaging content for Church…
Purposeful. Just putting together something for the sake of it is not the right thing. Definitely not if it is just to fill a gap. There has to be a reason for it, a strategy. There must be a purpose for it.
About the Journey. Everybody loves a good story, but more so the journey that takes place to overcome conflict, obstacles and threat. It is the best way to engage a persons emotions and when they can identify with the story it is perfect.
Balance. Too much and too little is bad. Somewhere there is a balance, sometimes holding back on something so that a separate element can be introduced is good. It is all about balance. This is especially true with Motion graphics – too much wizz bang can be a lot of ho humm.
Focused. If you don’t stay the path neither will the audience. They want to know that there will be an outcome. Spinning off into other tangents will confuse the audience. Although this can be used carefully to keep people guess you need to keep it balanced.
Professional. If you want people to respect the content next time and pay attention, you got to keep it professional and well done. Editing slips up will destroy the story and your reputation. Besides when you are doing this for God, it should done as best as possible to honour Him.
Enticing. Interesting and not boring. No sense using stuff that is not relevant or interesting.
Fun. If you are not having fun doing it, then it won’t be fun for people watching it. Unless the purpose is to illustrate the opposite of fun.
Well that is what I think. What do you think?
