Christian Film: Dangerous Calling (Trailer)

Christian Horror has been under discussion for some time (and example of that here). Everyone has their opinion about it. Definitely controversial. Personally I find it a bit of an oxymoron.
In that discussion falls the Independent; Film Dangerous Calling, which seems to me to be something less of a Horror and more of a Thriller (depending on your interpretation of the two genres). It is an intriguing Murder Mystery that takes place at a Church; quiet simply put. So maybe it could actually fall out of the realm of Christian Film. Except for the fact that it’s makers; Josh and Jeremiah Daws are Christians and classify the their creation as a Christian film. Either way it looks very good. It is a great indication that things are looking up in the realm of Christian Film.
Dangerous Calling is in fact classified as a Thriller on IMDB (Internet Move Database), putting itself in the can genre as the following top Thrillers (according to IMDB):

  1. The Godfather (1972)
  2. The Godfather: Part II (1974)
  3. Pulp Fiction (1994)
  4. The Dark Knight (2008)
  5. Rear Window (1954)
  6. Fight Club (1999)
  7. Psycho (1960)
  8. The Usual Suspects (1995)
  9. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
  10. The Matrix (1999)

Plot Summary from IMBD:

A suspense thriller set in the world of small town church politics, Dangerous Calling follows the story of Pastor Evan Burke and his wife Nora as they assume leadership of First Baptist Willit Springs after the mysterious death of the previous pastor. Eager to get to know the new pastor, Miss Pat, the church’s controlling widow-woman, invites Evan and Nora to stay with her while she has the parsonage renovated. Left alone at Miss Pat’s beautiful home in the mountains of North Georgia, Nora begins to suspect that Miss Pat’s extremely sheltered adult son, Elijah, may have had something to do with the previous pastor’s death. Although the story involves Christian characters, Dangerous Calling is not your typical church film. Owing more to Psycho and Misery than Left Behind, Dangerous Calling is sure to keep you on the edge of the pew. In this church the politics can be deadly. Written by Josh Daws

The film was taken up by CloudTenPictures; who have been involved with many Christian Films; to name a few:

  1. The River Within
  2. Shadow Government
  3. Genius Club
  4. Left Behind
  5. Saving God

And although Dangerous Calling was released and made available before that, it will now only be available for purchase on 9th February 2010.

Catch the makers on their Blog: Adventures in Filmmaking with the Daws Brothers and the Film’s FaceBook Page

I’ll reserve my honest opinion for when I watch the movie. I know that there have been great reviews and I know that I wont be disappointed.

Well, the last *good* `Christian` horror I saw was End Of Days: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146675/ . This one seems almost a little too polite. Or maybe it's just a badly crafted trailer.

You know, if anything, Christian legacy is far more brutal and violent – just check out the Old Testament. Plus, I'm pretty sure we're the only ones that nailed our savior to a cross. I can't imagine a true "christian horror" movie would go without some rather ridiculous violence.

Just saying. Maybe after the world ends, the movies'll get better :P

Josh and Jeremiah did a fantastic job on their "Dangerous Calling" movie. I reviewed it a couple years ago and loved it!
