Tabbed Widget Part Two

Tabbed Widget

Previously I wrote of my frustrations and desire to figure out tabbed widgets: Tabbed Widgets Part One. Funny that I had to struggle to find a way to display the code in a way that would not be parsed and or run by the blog engine. Hence the delay. However I found a plugin that suited me: iG:Syntax Hiliter. Don’t let the age of the plugin worry you, I run WordPress 2.9.2 – at the time or writing this – and it works. Continue Reading…

Tabbed Widget Part One

Tabbed Widget

I have been trying to gt this right for months. Ok, granted, I am not an expert web programmer but I am a programmer so I was dead set on solving this. It was like there was some secret brotherhood trick, I was thinking like Battlefield Earth kind of thing. You know where the aliens hid the real technology behind a facade of dummy circuitry. I searched an search and found a lot of sites saying stuff about it but not actually implementing it, and those that did must have been doing that Battlefield Earth facade thing. Well I use it (as of March 2010) and I aint gonna hide how I got it to work – here is what I did (feel free to slate me if it does not work for you):
This got a bit long so I put this in two parts; Part one, this post is kind of the back story and how I got to what I wanted, and part two will be the how to (what to download, php, css, etc)

StandardTheme Testing Part2

Standard Theme Test

This is my second round of testing out the WordPress Theme by John Saddington called StandardTheme.
It has been fun, and I’ll certainly be continuing on with the Theme – maybe even invest in it once it comes out of beta; John deserves every cent for the great work he has done. Watch out Thesis ;)

Synaptic Light Forums

synaptic Light cooler

It has always been the goal of this blog to be engaging. At the moment that engagement only happens through comments on topics originating from me. That’s a bit restrictive. The best way around that is to hand over the power to you, where you originate the topic and discussion can happen in a way that is both independent of me and this blog.

For now this is an experiment. I am using bbPress with a few plugins, no CSS editing by myself. However I am using the BusinessLike theme by Spyka.

So please, feel free to add a topic in the watercooler – tell me what you think. Tell me anything :) I will set up a few posts to start off with that will serve as direction for where SynapticLight is going – but you can completely ignore them if you want.

Here it is:

Advertising: Would you be Interested

would you advertise

This site does not generate a much traffic as it has the potential but visitors do click on the advertising elements in my sidebar. Considering that my efforts towards more awareness and community are generating results (in terms of visits, comments and outgoing links), I am considering the idea of paid advertising.

Why
It would be great for this blog to pay for itself; for hosting(free at the mo), backups, it’s own advertising, and in the use of more professional tools/plugins. But more than that – a group of us are working towards making a movie; at first we are taking baby steps – and each step requires time effort and money. So basically the money would go in the direction of: Continue Reading…

EPIC Church Media WIN

8bit Network

The 8Bit Experiment has begun.

The 8BIT Network’s Mission is to resource the Church with timely, relevant, practical, and exceptionally valuable content. Our properties receive tens of thousands of pageviews a day and are widely regarded as online epicenters within their respective fields of coverage

Committing to one year of blogging; success or fail (but of course it will be successful), the members of 8Bit will provide posts relating to the following spheres (spheres for want of a better name):

For me and the strategy of this blog I have registered to contribute at ChurchCreate – Media; specifically in the area of Video (how it pertains to the Church, usage, leveraging Video and tutorials on relevant tools).

churchcreate

Here is the ChurchCreate break down:

  • Art and Design : Creativity Unbound
  • Community: Me, You, We
  • Production: A Fine Art
  • Video and Audio: Engineering Awesome

I feel that this is an EPIC WIN because it leverages an already integrated community and allows them to offer their own skills and knowledge to empower and help the greater Church community. I have tried to champion this with building a Christian Video and Filmmaking Tribe but I am small fry in regards to my reputation and reach; ChurchCrunch and it’s community is not.

Will you come and join us?

StandardTheme Testing

StandardTheme Logo
You have probably noticed that I have not only changed themes – from Thesis to the new Beta StandardTheme by John Saddington. So over the next couple weeks I will be trying out a few things in order to help smooth the theme into Release Candidate status. I ask that you please tell me if you see any anomalies or funnies while you dig around.

Standard Theme built on Industry standardsStandard Theme fast, light, effectiveStandard Theme SEO best practices

I was always going to perform a complete style overhaul so this has now become my opportunity to put a few of those ideas into effect while testing the StandardTheme. So please let me know what you think of the style – recommendations are welcome.
I do not mind any opinion or thoughts. Each will be considered and , when appropriate, submitted to the StandardTheme Development Team. Your input is important.

Blogging Goals 2010 : Month One Progress Report

goal

Well it has been one and a half months since self hosting over at OurChurch. Very cool :)

  • Self Host – Done, thank you Paul Steinbrueck and OurChurch.
  • Non Template Theme – thank you human3rror
  • 200 Subscribers – bouncing between 388 and 351. Thanks if you have subscribed,  if you have not I encourage you to. Maybe I need to readjust my goal to 500.
  • 1000 comments – Very close to this, that is why I posted the competition post: Competition: 1000th Comment – Stuff Christians Like Book. So get cracking with those comments :) Actually I removed a number of trackbacks and spam comments that found there way in some time back, so I have fallen back somewhat. Please help me make up that ground.
  • Community - Tough one to measure. I am not really seeing this on my blog other than connecting with a few cool people through the comments. Pretty much all the community is happening in Twitter and facebook. However I have signed up to postrank to measure this through their engagement points and also with ubervu for reations, both look very hot.

How are you doing with your goals? Got any tools/plans in place to achieve them?

Competition: 1000th Comment – Stuff Christians Like Book

Stuff Christians Like BookOne of the major milestones of this blog is nearing Completion; that of 1000 comments. In celebration of achieving that particular milestone I will be sending a copy of the Stuff Christians Like Book. I feel that such a milestone is deserving of a prize because I value comments more that other statistics. I don’t expect that this will mean that I will get more comments but if I do achieve the milestone faster than expected then I will send out two prizes for comments 1000 and 1001.

Thanks you for your comments so far; each one is valued highly so please do not hesitate saying anything you like.
