Journey of Iron

September 16, 2011 — 3 Comments

I will be documenting the  progress of my Journey at Journey of Iron. Feel free to subscribe, comment and even share.

One of the ways that you can participate on this journey (without having to physically run, swim, cycle with me) is to support me financially. If this is the way that you feel that you can help then please use the Donate button on the right of this blog or the link on the Journey of Iron blog. If you wish to know more, email me at phillip.gibb@gmail.com.

Updates will follow at a weekly basis or more frequent basis.

Triathlon

September 11, 2011 — 2 Comments

triathlon startJust checking in here with some update from my personal life.

Crazy

I have decided to participate in a triathlon, well one of many with the first being Challenge Cape Town‘s 4:18:4. It is only a 400m open water swim, 18km cycle and a 4km run. The intention is to work my way up to the real event one year later which is a whopping 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and a 42.2km run.

Sooo, if anyone has any advice please feel free to comment away.

Why

Why do this? You are probably thinking. Welll, the thing is that I made a life altering decision to get my health in order, and since I tend to take things to the extreme, one thing led to another and I found myself in the best physical condition of my life – something that opened the door to participate in events such as triathlons.

And I am amped about; super excited.

The only thing I find completely daunting is the financial investment to get kitted out for this. Stupid me, I sold my bike about 6 years ago. Now I am faced with the prospect of having to fork out cash I do not have to buy a slippery wetsuit and a fancy bike. Fortunately I am able to borrow a bike and a wetsuit albeit a surfing wetsuit with the sleeves cut off.

Help

If you have gotten this far in blurb about participating then I ask to hang on for a moment to hear out a proposition.

Like I said earlier, getting kitted out is expensive. My wife supports me in this endeavor but it would not be very fair to her or my kids to hand out cash for the crazy goal that should be used for other things. So I ask, that if you would like to participate in getting me to my first Triathlon and be a witness to my journey, I ask if you would please help me out in a small way; anything from $10 and up by a group of helpful contributors would empower me to get the wetsuit I need.

Merry Christmas
Have a very Happy Holiday Season this Christmas.
Remember to honor Jesus Christ for what He did and to celebrate Christmas for what it truely is – the greatest gift ever given.

Post House the Wine

November 24, 2010 — Leave a comment

Post HouseI saw this on the shelf and just had to try it out. I mean it’s called Post House, it is Red Wine and I enjoy Post Production.

It was a no brainer.

So I had some Pasta for supper; Barilla Capellini n.1 with a bit of a mix match sauce that turned out pretty good. That was a very cool pasta, if I might add my two cents; very thin and a great texture.

Post House Bluish Black is in it’s self a  mix match of wines: 32% Shiraz 32% Pinotage 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18%Merlot. Not really sure about what people say about noses and hints of this and that, but in my opinion it is a smooth red wine. If you really want to know more then check out PostHouseWines.

I just thought it was cool that I had a Post House Wine while doing some Production.

ha ha ha.

It is almost Christmas time and I have been a good boy :)
and there are some things that I wish would be under my Christmas tree this year.
Here is that list, feel free to share yours too.
It’s not a stupid ridiculous list, it is an enhancement on what I am already saving up for.

Ok let me re-phrase that – it is a bit ridiculous – unless I win the lotto, ha ha ha. But we are entitled to dream right?

  • Is there something that you are wishing for? Hoping to be under the Christmas Tree this year?
  • See anything in this list you like?
  • Anything missing?

Please let me know in the comments :)

Going Primal

October 1, 2010 — Leave a comment

I love reading books. The plan that I try to implement is to read 3 types of books (Technological, Spiritual, Fiction), and to keep these rotating. My Spiritual book this last month was Primal, A Quest for the Lost Soul of Christianity, by Mark Batterson. On top of just reading this very challenging book (and also implementing the principles discussed) there was also a Group Blogging project over at Andy Darnell’s Blog. Here a group of us from all over the world posted our thoughts on the chapter that we were assigned.

As you may have noticed; I am supporting 1Goal – here in SynapticLight and on FaceBook. I believe that 1Goal is a brilliant concept. Rather than just buying food and serving an immediate need that will just keep re-occurring, 1Goal seeks to provide a way to educate as many people as possible. Really a sophisticated approach to “Buy a man a fish and feed him for one day, teach him to fish and feed him everyday

A child born to a mother who can read is 50% more likely to survive past the age of five.

This is it.
The FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa is climaxing tonight with the Spain vs Netherlands final. I have chosen Spain as my team in this match although it seems that there is a lot of local support for Holland. But there is something about Spain. I think that The two teams play a similar style football but Spain is more of a team, more clinical and more aware of the game as a whole.
Here is the adidas Football quest, here is the final destination. I like table mountain in the shot :)
Some if the football moves in the movie looks a bit like Shaolin Soccer, ever seen that? ;)

This is classic, funny and so well done.

If you are watching the South African FIFA World Cup 2010, like me you have seen player go down for no reason. Maybe there is a slight touch, maybe there is not. Either way a player goes down in some form of pain. Now the truth has been revealed …
