Canon XH A1: My First Impressions

Yesterday I had the opportunity to work together on the Canon XH A1 in our BlueScreen shoot. I was not the camera I was hoping for – that being a Panasonic HVX200A, but it was still a great camera. In the 3-4 hours I was their (Platypus Studios in Cape Town South Africa) I got to fiddle and mess around with the camera – albeit in it’s locked off state on the tripod. TenBefore: Blue Screen + AutoCue = Success

Experience from the last few blue and green screen shoots for the TenBefore lead me to believe that this 6 script endeavor would devour the entire day.

Step into the TelePrompter/AutoCue lair and you will leave happy.

Apart from a few glitches we completed the shoot in an unprecedented 3 hrs – how awesome is that?

NAB 2009 is upon us

NAB 2009
The conference begins tomorrow (18th April), and the Exhibits on Monday (20th April).

RED will be there with RED Scarlet and EPIC, and the RED Professional lenses at the REDUser ’09 NAB Party – very cool
AVID will be there
Apple has opted out but there are the odd rumors about Final Cut Studio 3 and Phenomenon, hmmm.

Back in the Day: The First TenBefore

Thought that this may be quite appropriate since we are going to be filming more of this with in a month.
And it looks like we may just get to do it within a studio – better lights, camera and Green Screen – niccccce.
The one below was done with a Sony EX1, KinoFlos, DedoLights, Shake, FCP and lots of Time and Patience.

Compression Settings for ProPresenter3

Before I going into the explanation of what I use to compress the videos for ProPresenter, here are some preliminaries:

Projector Resolution: 1024 x 786
Compression Software: Apple Compressor 3
Presentation Software: ProPresenter3 from Renewed Vision
The Final Cut Pro Project is 720p hence the 72 top and bottom padding that I use in Geometry setting.
