Over the last few years I have been collecting RSS subscriptions for Filmmaking and Video editing. I have to admit that I have not been very strict or very organized so the list has grown and here it is ….

Film Expo Asia 2010

fea2

a great student short film contest

I was contacted by a member of Film Expo Asia who asked that I help spread the word of the event. The event being a student short film contest. I like it, and I encourage you to find out more. The competition basically is open to “everybody who studies / resides in Asian countries or is Asian citizen”, but be sure to check the submission details.
The contest involves first applying to be on one of the 99 teams, then to compete on location in Thailand. This makes it an ideal student Filmmaker competition – especially since it takes place over the typical student recess period. This means that you don’t have to have a short film done and dusted by the 30th April – just a Treatment, all the work is done on location. It also does not seem necessary to possess any form of equipment, although the use of equipment will be on a first come first serve basis. What is also great is that Film Expo Asia will be helping out with certain forms of transportation (Facilities & Production Support section). Continue Reading…

Digital Compositing for Film and Video, 3rd Edition

Digital Compositing for Film and Video

The Compositor’s Bible

I have been wanting to get my hands on a copy of the second edition for a while. Now with the third edition coming out in May – I have renewed incentive. The new edition by Steve Wright looks really good (well – the second did as well)  it contains new stuff on 3D compositing (very well timed, eh), stereo and multi-pass CGI. Continue Reading…

Oscars 2010 Best Short Film – Live Action: The New Tenants (Trailer)

To be honest; I did not know that there was a category for Short Film at the Oscars. I wonder what the criteria is; at first I thought: “Hey, this is an opportunity” hmmmm. Anyway; I could not tell much from the trailer, in fact I watched it a few times and still did not get an idea of what it was about or even a hook into wanting to know more – I had to read the synopsis. But since it won an Oscar I kind of feel that I have to wtch the film now. Anyway here is the trailer; what are your first thoughts?

Zacuto Great Camera Shootout: HD-DSLR vs 35mm

Shootout_2010

HD-DSLR vs 35mm

This one is a keeper! a shootout between the best of HD-DSLR and 35mm. High Definition has come a long way, but we keep saying that 35mm is better; latitude is better, color is better, it just seems more natural. However here is a great opportunity to see where HD really is as these comparisons play out. Where we can see the truth of it; technically and aesthetically – not just from hearsay.
Below is the trailer, check it out; and be sure reserve some time for the actual webisodic series at zacuto.
