Blogging Goals for 2010

It has been well over a year of blogging. In that time I have learned much, I have been both encouraged and discouraged.

But this is merely the beginning.

What is the purpose of blogging? Don’t you think that there has to be a point to it? Even if it is to keep you 3 family members involved in some distant land there is a purpose.

My purpose is to connect with like minded people; in this blog’s case – with people who want to make films, especially those that also make use of Social Media to facilitate and achieve this. Ultimately what I do here is intentional in making those connections and hence working towards encouraging engagement.

Also a big influence is my relationship with God and my work in the Church to provide Video expertise and content.

So with that in mind here are my goals for 2010:

  • Self Host: This is the the most logical step to take this blog to the next level. Currently there are so limitations especially with JavaScript. I am hoping that this will improve my reach.
  • Non Template Theme: I already have the Thesis Theme waiting and ready to go when I self host. This way I can make this blog truly representative of my personality and creativity.
  • 200 Subscribers: I have almost 50 subscribers, it has been like that for a while. But to really have a wider audience I need to have a consistent readership, one way is to improve on the number of subscribers. To this end I will be pimping and driving subscriptions.
  • 1000 comments: For me this is the ultimate indicator of success in a blog. I understand that Twitter, Facebook Notes and RSS readers actually damped this somewhat. But I would trade 100,000 visits for 100 comments. This is what drive engagement. To achieve this I need to look into my style of writing as well as the content I publish.
  • Community: More of an abstract goal that could be measured by subscription and comments. But it would be an ultimate win to say that synapticlight was a community not a blog.

Please join we and be a part of this community.

Hey Phill, I’m a big advocate of goal-setting, so way to go on setting goals for your blogging. They look like good set of goals to have too.

I’ll be one to start the subscriber goal. Been following for a while on twitter. Next logical step.

Getting self-hosted would be a good first step in achieving you 2010 goals. I hope to see your blog on the other side after that jump.

    thanks,
My wife has given me the go ahead to commit to the subscription requirements to self host, so I am but a month away.
The only thing that stops me is having a workable offline design b4 going ahead

    Thanks, I appreciate that.
Great example that Relationships are probably more important than Content, something like what Chris Brogan meant in his Content is not King Post
