5Dmk2/7D Lens Comparison Test
An oldie, but a goodie, that I saw on Planet5D Blog: The difference between the full frame and crop sensors.
Since I am getting a Canon 550D in a few days, I though that I needed to watch this.
One of the most important things to consider with HDSLRs is Lens selection – especially when working with a crop sensor as the 550D has.
Now, I guess, that most people who have a 550D or any crop sensor camera would want to replace the body in the furture with, most possibly, a camera with full frame sensor.
This video illustrates the difference that senor makes on the image with the lenses. It is important to know that lenses designed for full frame will have a narrower angle on a crop sensor and a lens for a crop sensor camera will be blurred on the edges when used on a full frame camera.
So the best idea would be to stick to the non crop lenses and just adjust your choices.
A 50mm on a 550D would actually be an 80mm.

First Public Footage of a Working Red Scarlet

This is the very first public footage of a working Red Scarlet Fixed Lens camera. I’m currently at Red Studios helping with the Santa Fe 3d Workshop with Geoff Boyle. Just as I am sitting there…in comes Jarred with a WORKING Red Scarlet 8X fixed camera! Naturally I was dying to hold the camera. As Jarred passed it to me, he told me I was the first public person to hold a working Red Scarlet. Let me tell you folks, it is real and is working. The Scarlet I was holding had the 5inch lcd touchscreen. The lens gear ring which can be set to zoom, iris or focus is buttery smooth. QUALITY. The electronic zoom works like a charm. I used the up-down rocker on the camera to zoom in on a Jeep in the parking lot (though I was “Mr. Shakey” due to the sheer excitement of finally getting to hold the Red Scarlet.) Justin O’Neill and I got to see it for a mere brief moment and off it went back to the vault. This should be comforting to those who may fear that RED wouldn’t have time for the Scarlet with all the Epic buzz going on. This gives me more confidence that the Red Scarlet is definitely around the corner. I have been really lucky to have held both the Epic and Scarlet. The Scarlet is lighter in weight than the Epic even with the fixed lens. This is due to the Scarlet body being more narrow. The weight felt very good and the camera felt rugged. Touch screen controls were functional. Enjoy!

Moleskin Film Journal
This is really cool – especially if you like to document your thoughts of films you have seen. It looks quite flexible in the way you can put your thoughts down with different sections, blank pages and separate adhesive labels.
Check out the Moleskin Film Journal. I was quite impressed that it was in a local bookstore – just one mind you.
If you are going to a film festival and you want to take notes, this should be your journal of choice.

Post House the Wine
I saw this on the shelf and just had to try it out. I mean it’s called Post House, it is Red Wine and I enjoy Post Production.
It was a no brainer.
So I had some Pasta for supper; Barilla Capellini n.1 with a bit of a mix match sauce that turned out pretty good. That was a very cool pasta, if I might add my two cents; very thin and a great texture.
Post House Bluish Black is in it’s self a mix match of wines: 32% Shiraz 32% Pinotage 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18%Merlot. Not really sure about what people say about noses and hints of this and that, but in my opinion it is a smooth red wine. If you really want to know more then check out PostHouseWines.
I just thought it was cool that I had a Post House Wine while doing some Production.
