Charity: Water Update

It is always great to be involved in community projects, especially when they try to address the most basic of human needs – something we take for granted. In this case; Water.
I am thankful that I have had donations in my Campaign but it is not about one Campaign it is about the greater contribution to the Charity. So if you don’t donate to mine then setup you own and use your own leverage and network of friends to help put a clean glass of water in the hands of a child who really needs it.

Dear friend,

We’re glad you’ve got an active campaign on mycharitywater.org.

Here’s a letter from the Charity (things are going very well):

“In only a few months of Beta, the mycharitywater community has raised an astounding $669,000 and helped over 33,000 people get clean water.
We are blown away by the creativity and passion we see on your campaign pages.

This week’s top Fundraiser was Twitter creator Jack Dorsey (@jack) who knocked out 3 wells and $15,000 in less than a week (see http://www.mycharitywater.org/jack )

We’ve been working hard to make improvements based on your feedback, and have just added a new feature to accept checks.
Now your donors can write checks and the money will be reflected in your campaign total.

Screenshots are attached.

We hope this helps you reach your goals! Thanks for your passion to bring clean drinking water to those in need!

Thank you Southpoint Church

Southpoint ChurchNot many people are able to take their interests and passions to new levels with the help of the community – most have to go it alone, have to find their own opportunity and fight their own battles.

Southpoint Church gave me an opportunity to take my dream to a new level by helping me get involved in filmmaking, motion graphics and general video media. I have learnt how to use a professional camera, edit in Final Cut Pro, create industry standard DVDs and interact with the community. All that I can do now is a result of the opportunity afforded to me. Not many people get even a sniff of opportunity.

Thanks Southpoint Church. When I make my feature film you will certainly be credited.

This post was created as part of a global groundswell of gratitude called TweetsGiving. The celebration, created by US nonprofit Epic Change, is an experiment in social innovation that seeks to change the world through the power of gratitude. I hope you’ll visit the TweetsGiving site to learn more, and to bring your grateful heart to the party by sharing your gratitude, and giving in honor of that for which you’re most thankful.

Ideas and their Killers

Anybody can have a great idea. Most of the time we kill our own ideas with self doubt, bad motives or just bad planning. To prevent Good Ideas being killed off:

  • Keep a notepad handy at all times. Do no think that you’ll remember them later, it is like trying to remember a dream.
  • Think about what makes your idea unique. It may not be a unique idea but you may have a unique angle to it.
  • Timing is Everything. Blurting it out to the general audience is probably worse than doubting the idea’s merit. Best to think about it and plan how to make it live beyond your own thoughts.
  • Trust Yourself. Consider the idea on it’s merit not yours least you kill it with your self doubt.

Facebook Fan Page

SynapticLight Fan PageI believe that one avenue of success in blogging is Awareness; before awesome content and before awesome relationships people need to know that you exist.

To that end I have tried many mechanisms be it twitter, guest blogging, commenting etc.  So now I am trying a Facebook pan page. Using the article: How To Promote Your Blog Using Facebook Pages I have created a SynapticLight Fan Page. Please wont you pop on by and join up, and if you feel so inclined – share with your friends – thanks.
Although I run the risk of further engagement to only happen on the fan page and not here, I think that this helps bring the community aspect to life of this blog. Community breeds Awareness.
Please check it out and tell me what you think.

My Twitter Lists

list & coffee

Very Cool to be part of a Twitter List. I am not sure what the utility of that is until the Twitter Apps start integrating with it.

So here are the lists that I have and those that I am on; I don’t follow all of them. Actually I am am also not sure what it means to follow a list because whether you do or not doesn’t influence anything (more…)

Super-duper Cameras: WrapUp

This sort of brings to a close to this series but I will certainly revisit different elements as I get new news, insights and experience. And remember always, that I am keen to hear of your thoughts and experiences.
So here are the Digital Video Camera Brands that I took a look at. The purpose of this was to just talk a look at the camera – not to go into a detailed review – a video camera fashion parade if you will: (more…)
