Athlone Cooling Towers Demolition

demolition

Thanks to my Stuntman friend; John, and fellow traveler on the journey of filmmaking – I was able to take up a fantastic vantage point.
From atop John’s roof I was able to record the amazing demolition of the Athlone Cooling Towers. Unfortunate for some, they pushed the button early – I was not taking changes :) Also it did not seem that the explosion went to plan.
It was supposed to take 10 seconds for the first tower to go down, then a 10 second break before the next set of set of explosions – seemed like everything went off at the same time.
Check the video out – it is awesome :

Now the difference btw you and me is that I would probably have only turned the camera on with 2 minutes to go so as not to waste the battery! So glad you are not me, otherwise a whole lot of people would have missed out on this excellent footage! Really proud, well done.

Dumbazz mayor could not even get this right. What a dufus, presses the button early. Lot of people missed it to photograph that is but there are many videos though.

      apparently it was weather related

yeah, I can imagine, the rain started falling about a minute before. I was getting nervous about a slippery roof. The Downpour did come – but only 15-20 later

It was not the mayor people, he got the go ahead from the mc who was on the phone with the engineer, They were advised to do it asap as a cloud burst was expected at 12:00.
