31 Days to Build a Better Blog: The Elevator Pitch

Good Practices

It is always good practice to step away from what you are involved with, what you are wanting to succeed in, and make an objective evaluation of it.  Sometime we find ourselves too embroiled up in the things we try so hard to succeed at, that we cannot find time to improve upon it. I believe that is a practice from Andy Stanley’s 7 Practices of Effective Leadership – Take time to evaluate your work – and too celebrate your wins; something you’ll find hard to do when you are too busy working to work on it. So here is, what I believe, to be a great opportunity to work on it; on blogging. Christan Web Trends has begun a blogging project based on Darren Rowse’s (of problogger.net) 31 Days to Build a Better Blog.

Come a Long Way

What makes this even greater is that I had already taken part in the workbook when Darren first launched the project last year. Now I have the opportunity to review the progress my blog has gone through since then and to make the necessary changes to improve.  SynapticLight has certainly come a long way, but as a blog and as a blogger I am nowhere near where I could be. However, it is a journey, not a destination – right ;) I invite you witness, take part and celebrate all the fun times I hope to have as I work my way towards being a better blogger with a better blog.

Focused

I have tried to stay focused in my area of interests here. My focus that being filmmaking – art, craft, tools, ideas, practice and dreams – as well as using social media  as a tool to create a better SynapticLight brand and presence. You see, I know that filmmaking is not a one man show; it requires a huge amount of resources, connections, time and effort. It is my hope that, through this blog, I can make those connections, learn about those resources, and document my dreams and my journey towards the my dream to make films.

The Elevator Pitch

If I look back at when I did this project on problogger.net, I can see that I have been able to find focus. I have been able to focus more on the video side of things and kept my journal of my son and I on a different blog: Son of Mine (which now has to change since I have a daughter as well, *big toothy grin*).  The big point I set down back then was:

  • Leverage Video for Church and building a relationship with those in the industry for God’s Glory

and that has not changed, it was my tag-line for a while, but has since changed to “a journey in Filmmaking and social media“. It is kind of general, but that is where my focus is: Filmmaking and leveraging Social Media to develop connections and resources in Filmmaking. But let me flesh this out into a true Elevator Pitch:

SynapticLight is about Filmmaking – the art, craft and tools that are used in the industry of Filmmaking, as well as the ideas, thoughts and dreams that I have regarding it. But most of all is about the journey that I am to realize my dream to be a good Filmmaker, that I hope will be something that Glorifies my Lord and Savior; Jesus Christ every step of the way.
